Resource Guide for Action: Transforming High School for All Youth
Access expertise, strategies, tools, indicators protocols, and research in the newly launched Resource Guide for Action: Transforming High School for All Youth. The Resource Guide for Action is designed to help policymakers and practitioners take action around the six core principles of A Call to Action: Transforming High School for All Youth. The Call to Action is the HS Alliance’s framework of principles and recommended strategies to guide leaders at all levels in transforming the traditional, comprehensive high school so that all youth are ready for college, careers, and active civic participation.

The report was commissioned by Achieve, Inc., with its fact base, international benchmarking of Ohio’s K-12 system and identification of best practice implications for Ohio, conducted by McKinsey & Company.

HONOR STATE UPDATES
NGA Forum on Midterm Progress in the Honor States
The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices hosted a forum on midterm progress in the High School Honor States on Thursday, February 15 in Washington, DC. The forum was held in conjunction with the publication of Redesigning High School in 10 Honor States: A Midterm Report. The report provides an overview of the high school redesign work of the ten Honor States during the first year of their grants.
Panelists at the forum included:
• Sue Carnell, Chief Policy Advisor for Education, Office of Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm
• Janet Durfee-Hidalgo, Education Policy Analyst, Office of Rhode Island Governor Donald Carcieri
• David Shane, member, Indiana State Board of Education
• Lynn Olson, Managing Editor of Special Projects, Education Week (moderator)
Representatives attending the forum from the other Phase One Honor States also participated in the discussion. The panelists and other forum participants discussed a range of issues including increasing course requirements and ensuring rigor, building public and stakeholder support for reform, promoting access to postsecondary education, and incorporating career and technical education in reform efforts.
